At the start of the season, Celtic went through a spree of renewing contracts, with the likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Daizen Maeda, Callum McGregor, Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate being the most high-profile players that the club tied down to new deals in the early months.
Contracts were coming up at the end of the season for Joe Hart ands David Turnbull and both of their situations have been addressed by the club, with Turnbull moving to Cardiff City for a fee reported to be around £2million, and Hart announcing his retirement from the professional game come the end of the season.
The club looks to be set to address the contract situation of a current rising star over the next few weeks, with Daniel Kelly set to be handed a new contract with the club.
Daniel Kelly's contract was set to be coming to an end at the end of the season, and given his recent breakthrough into the first-team coupled with the influx of young players from the academy who have moved on from the club in recent years, tying down a promising young talent to a new deal would have been of heightened importance to those at the club.
Kelly made his first appearance from the club from the bench against Buckie Thistle in the Scottish Cup Fourth Round. The game was already done at that point so it would have been difficult to make a real impact, but he did exactly that is his following appearance for the club as he replaced injured captain McGregor at half-time against Dundee, with the Hoops already leading 6-0 at the break.
He showed a willingness to get on the ball and maximised his time on it, showcasing some neat touches and close control. When his big opportunity did present itself in the final third, he took it, as he lashed him a brilliant strike on his weaker foot to add Celtic's seventh and final goal of the evening.
He followed that up with a further appearance against Hearts in the defeat to the Jambos at Tynecastle, but given the recent injury to Callum McGregor that looks to be keeping the captain out of action for a prolonged period of time, there could be room in the team for Daniel Kelly to make even more appearances for the first-team.
It doesn't look like the new contacts are going to be ending there though, with two Irish starts rumoured to be in talks with the club over new deals.
New Deals for Scales and Vata?
Liam Scales has seen a career resurgence this season under Brendan Rodgers as he stepped into the fold during an injury crisis at the beginning of the season. Once the injury crisis was over, Scales came out of it as the starting centre-back alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers, and a new contract is the least that he deserves for his efforts this season.
Rocco Vata looked like he could have been on the way out of Parkhead in January with interest looming from Italy. However, it seems there may have been a change of heart in the youngsters camp, and more opportunities in the first-team could be on the horizon should he commit his long-term future to the club.
