THE 27-GOAL IRISH STRIKER ON CELTIC'S RADAR

Transfer rumours surrounding Celtic continue to increase with the upcoming summer window looking set to be a busy one. Brendan Rodgers will be looking to stick around regardless of whether his team can win this league title or not, and he will be hoping for a change in approach for this upcoming window.

He could have just that with Mark Lawwell losing his job as Head of Recruitment, and it remains to be seen whether Celtic will make a move to fill the vacant role.

There aren't many rumours hinting towards it, and Brendan Rodgers may look to have a more hands-on approach with transfers this time round. Spending most of his managerial career in England, the Premier League and the Championship are arguably the two markets that Brendan Rodgers knows best. With the loan signings of Adam Idah and Nat Phillips both looking like hand-picked Rodgers signings, and both producing differing results, it looks like more players of that ilk could be on Rodgers' radar.

Recent rumours have indicated interest in Coventry City's Callum O'Hare, with the 25-year-old winger being out of contract in the summer and available on a free. The links to Championship players haven't stopped there either, with more reports emerging about another attacker from that league.

It is reported that Celtic are interested in signing Blackburn Rovers' 28-year-old attacker Sammie Szmodics.

The Irishman is on the radars of a number of clubs, including some in the English top-flight, and he recently earned his first cap for the Republic of Ireland national team against Belgium after his flying form for the Rovers this season.

Why should Celtic sign him?

Celtic will need to add some more firepower to their attack this summer with Adam Idah looking set to return to Norwich City in the summer and Oh Hyeon-gyu falling out of favour with Brendan Rodgers.

Not a natural forward, Szmodics has been deployed by Blackburn just behind the striker as a number ten, but he has found himself becoming the main source of goals for the Rovers in the Championship.

In a season in which Blackburn haven't been performing well, currently sitting 17th in the Championship just 3 points off of the relegation zone, Szmodics has been firing in the goals, starting every game for Rovers and grabbing 27 goals and 3 assists in 41 games.

He also played a starring role as Blackburn went toe-to-toe with Newcastle United in the FA Cup, scoring the equaliser for Blackburn as they eventually lost out on penalties to the Premier League side.

It hasn't just been this season that he has begun to fire in the goals as they have been a pretty familiar part of his game across his career, having a solid goal-scoring record in spells at Peterborough United and Colchester United.

At 28-years-old, Szmodics is coming into the prime years of his career, and he could be a great signing should Celtic look to pick him up this summer.
