A new round of January loanees has added to Celtic’s already large roster of players out on loan this season. Some names that will be more familiar to the fans than the B team players that have been honing their craft out on loan at different clubs have been impressing at pastures new away from Parkhead, whilst others are struggling to make a real impact.
With the time winding down for players to make a real impact on their loan spells, Here is A Celtic State of Mind’s assessment on Celtic’s current loanees.
Sead Haksbanovic – Stoke City
The Montenegrin continues to fail to make a real impact with the Potters, as he has been in and out the team over the last few weeks as Stoke look to find their way out of the Championship relegation zone.
Marco Tilio – Melbourne City
Tilio made the move to Melbourne City in January after failing to find game time at Parkhead. The Aussie has been playing well since returning to more familiar surroundings as he scored a phenomenal goal against Sydney FC as well as picking up the club’s player of the month award for February.
Mikey Johnston – West Brom
Johnston signed for West Brom on deadline day and has made an instant impact for the Baggies, grabbing 3 goals in 7 appearances, and they have all been high-quality finishes.
Kwon Hyeok-kyu – St Mirren
The South Korean has been performing consistently for the Buddies as the look to make a late charge for the top six. He is yet to grab his first goal for the club, seeing a cracker ruled out for a foul by VAR, but Stephen Robinson is very keen to extend his loan spell in Paisley beyond the summer.
Liam Shaw – Wigan
Shaw hasn’t been able to make a real impact with the Latics in League One, mostly appearing scarcely from the bench.
Adam Montgomery – Motherwell
Montgomery made a positive start to life at Fir Park, grabbing an assist on his debut, but similarly to his loan spell at Fleetwood Town in the first-half of the season, injuries began to plague him and he has returned to Lennoxtown for treatment.
Josh Clarke – Ayr United
Clarke has been starting for Ayr United as he joins up with Celtic legend Scott Brown, making some great saves already in a very competitive division.
Tobi Oluwayemi and Matthew Anderson – Admira Wacker
The Austrian second division recently returned form a winter break, but Oluwayemi hasn’t started since play resumed. Anderson started and saw out the full 90 as Admira Wacker won 3-2.
Bosun Lawal – Fleetwood Town
Lawal has been hitting form and catching the eyes of Celtic supporters under Charlie Adam at Fleetwood. He is racking up quite the collection of extraordinary goals as he features predominantly in the midfield, as well as picking up numerous player of the match awards over the last few weeks.
Ben McPherson and MacKenzie Carse – Queen’s Park
The pair have been featuring regularly under Callum Davidson in the Championship with both McPherson and Carse starring in a 3-0 victory over Dunfermline where McPherson grabbed an assist and Carse grabbed his first ever senior goal.
Ben Summers – Dunfermline Athletic
Summers has featured regularly both from the bench and from the start for the Pars, making 13 appearances in the Championship this season.
