THE TRICKY SITUATION ALEXANDRO BERNABEI'S DEPARTURE LEAVES CELTIC IN

Celtic find themselves in a pretty tricky situation at the back given some of the recent transfer business. Earlier this week, out-cast left-back Alexandro Bernabei completed a loan move to Brazilian side Internacional, a move that will see him there until the end of 2024.

Whilst Bernabei's exit was inevitable, his departure now leaves Greg Taylor as the only left-back currently available at the club's disposal.

Fans had been critical over the club's lack of activity when trying to sign a left-back in the previous transfer windows. The position was reportedly identified as one the club were looking to improve in the summer of 2023, but since then there hasn't been a single left-back signed, despite numerous links to players from across the continent.

When you also take into consideration the fact that Greg Taylor's form has been hot and cold for the majority of the 2023/24 campaign, it makes allowing Bernabei to leave at such a critical point in the season look even more of a bewildering decision to make.

So with the club now down to just one left-back currently available, what does the club do should the nightmare scenario arise that Greg Taylor picks up an injury?

Scales at Left-Back?

One way in which Celtic could look to deal with a potential injury to Greg Taylor could be by moving Liam Scales over to that position. Scales has deputised as a left-back for the club previously under Ange Postecoglou, but that was to differing results.

Whilst he may have turned in some decent displays against some of the lesser teams that he faced, any team of real quality can cause plenty of problems for Scales down the left-hand side.

Scales has seen a career resurgence for the club at centre-back. Reverting him back to the position he played that saw most supporters write off his chances of succeeding at the club would be a bad idea.

Ralston at Left-Back?

Another possible solution to this potential problem would be moving Anthony Ralston over to the left.

Ralston is a solid and dependable option for the club, constantly getting forward and influencing the attack whilst also being solid defensively.

However, technically he is a fairly limited footballer, and whenever he has played as a left-back for the club in emergency scenarios he is caught out by opposition wingers more often than not.

Mitchell Frame

Arguably the most exciting of the three options presented would be giving young Mitchell Frame the chance to impress.

Frame's only appearance for the club came from the bench against Feyenoord in the Champions League Group Stage, where he turned in an impressive cameo in the club's only victory in the group stages.

Fans have been critical of the lack of opportunities afforded to youth academy talent at the club, and if they can't even get a chance when there isn't a fit players available in that position, then when will they?

We also can't forget that Kieran Tierney's rise to prominence all began when he was given a chance after an injury to Emilio Izaguirre left the club with no choice.
